This paper explores the dynamics of domestic violence in groups whose intimate experiences are most impacted by public forms of abuse and powerlessness, specifically heterosexual men of color and homosexuals of all races. Pertinent to analysis are considerations of visibility and invisibility and the concepts of power and privilege. We suggest that feminist family therapy should view the public dimensions of abuse as a starting point for treatment conceptualization.
