A 1,5-cyclooctadieneiridium complex of V4O124−, {[(η-C8H12)Ir]2(V4O12)}2− is synthesized as a tetra-n-butylammonium salt by reacting [(η-C8H12)IrCl]2 with either [(n-C4H9)4N]3V5O14 or [(n-C4H9)4N]VO3 in CH3CN. The reaction of [(η-C8H12)IrCl]2 with [(n-C4H9)4N]VO3 in CH3CN also yields [(η-C8H12)Ir(V4O12)]3− as a tetra-n-butylammonium salt. X-Ray structural analyses revealed that the [(η-C8H12)Ir(V4O12)]3− and {[(η-C8H12)Ir]2(V4O12)}2− anions contain a V4O124− ring coordinated to one or two (η-C8H12)Ir+ moieties, respectively.
