Electrostatic surface potentials of micelles of sodium salts of decyl‐, dodecyl‐, tetradecyl‐, and hexadecylsulfate were measured in aqueous solutions in the presence of various concentrations of NaClO 4 . From the surface potentials, the surface charge and diffuse double layer properties of the micelles were calculated by means of a modified non‐linearized Poisson‐Boltzmann equation [1]. With known values for the mean aggregation number the dissociation constants of the micelles were obtained. The effects of different counterions such as lithium, sodium, and caesium salts of dodecylsulfate were considered. For sodiumdodecylsulfate a decrease of the free monomer concentration for surfactant concentrations above the cmc was calculated.
