Fabrication of metal‐laden semiconductor particles by solide‐state diffusion is reported. The absorption spectra of the thus formed Ag/CuCl layered nanoparticles in a glass matrix are examined and explained in terms of a theory developed for partially metal‐coated copper chloride particles. Evidence that the dominant crystallite phase after diffusion of Ag into the CuCl nanocrystals is still CuCl and not AgCl is also presented. It is hoped to use this diffusion technique for the fabrication of thin‐film metal/semiconductor nanoparticle structures for optical application.
