This edition contains only a few additions, the most important of which are the description of the Kahn method in the diagnosis of syphilis and the demonstration of the bacteriophage phenomenon. The manual gives, in great detail, the fundamental technic used in the study of yeasts, molds and bacteria, with emphasis on the technical and agricultural applications of microbiology rather than on human diseases. Some immunologic experiments are included. The procedures are described with great exactness, and, on the whole, have been kept up to date. The old method of titrating mediums is still retained in the body of the text, although the present more useful hydrogen ion determination is given in the appendix. The manual should be useful, particularly to students in agricultural colleges, for whom it is evidently intended.
