Further evidence is given for the random nature of the thermally induced aldol condensation reaction in polymethyl vinyl ketone based on the U.V. absorption spectra of degraded samples. A rate curve for the reaction is deduced for a simple statistical theory and the overall reaction kinetics proved to be first order with respect to the condensible functional groups.
