Non‐resonant interband Faraday rotation (FR) is measured in a‐As 2 S 3 between 480 and 850 nm in a magnetic field up to 4 T at temperatures between 4 and 300 K. Analysis of the results by means of theoretical dispersion formulae reveals an energy gap E g FR of about 3.1 eV. This value is higher than the optical gap (2.36 eV) but is in agreement with the gap determined with dispersion measurements; from literature similar FR data are found for e‐Si where FR reveals a direct gap. The temperature influence is small. From 50 to 300 K, E g FR slowly diminishes, and has a constant value below 50 K.
