This paper reviews records of sounds from meteors that were heard simultaneously with the appearance of the meteors. Such sounds are carried presumably by electromagnetic waves. A number of different conceivable mechanisms for the generation of the radiation, which have the necessary characteristics, are considered. It is concluded that the most likely mechanism involves the radiation that originates in large numbers of air molecules that are ionized by the impacts of the invading meteorites.
