A system composed of relativistic, charged particles in a uniform, slowly varying magnetic field is considered. The initial or unperturbed state of the system is one in which the number of particles per cubic centimeter with energies greater than E is given by kE−γ, and in which the particle flux is isotropic. The effects of slow, uniform changes in the field strength upon the integral energy spectrum and upon the omnidirectional intensity of particles with momenta greater than σ are calculated. A simple expression which describes the latter effect is developed. Variations of these two effects are calculated as functions of the parameters, γ and σ.
