The propagation of Voigt waves in biaxial composite materials—whose component material phases do not support the propagation of Voigt waves—is demonstrated. Orientations of the singular axes (along which Voigt wave propagation can occur) of a composite material are explored as functions of the orientations of its component material phases, using the Maxwell Garnett and Bruggeman homogenization formalisms.
