A clearer understanding of the structure of the CuN2S2 chromophores from blue copper proteins may emerge from the complex obtained by reaction of CF3SO3Ag with a chiral, potential N,N′S,S′ donor system. Instead of the expected mononuclear complex, the product proved to be a coordination polymer in which each ligand molecule is bound to three Ag atoms (as in the fragment illustrated on the right). The twist in this coordination polymer, which forms a single stereoisomer containing a Δ-helix, apparently is due to only one stereogenic center in the ligand.
