Calorimetric Investigation of the Phase Behaviour of the System Poly(2,6‐Dimethyl‐1,4‐Phenyleneoxide)‐Antracene

The phase behaviour of the system poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenyleneoxide) (PPO) ‐ antracene was investigated. An eutectic behaviour was deduced from calorimetric observations. In samples prepared by evaporation of a benzene solution, the melting point depression of both components and the eutectic melting was observed. When the samples are prepared by freeze‐drying from a benzene solution, only the melting point depression of antracene and the eutectic melting was observed. The presence of PPO crystallites could only be revealed by X‐ray scattering observations.
