A new method for heteroarylation of aromatic derivatives has been developed. The highly reactive 2-bromo-5-tricyanovinylfuran acts in the presence of AlCl 3 under conditions of Friedel-Crafts reaction as an electrophilic furylation reagent to give 5-aryl-2-tricyanovinylfurans with selected benzene and naphthalene derivatives.
