The management of tuberculosis is complex and evolving. The body of scientific data that informs this management is vast and not easily assimilated by most practitioners. Therefore, for many decades the management of tuberculosis has been directed by expert panels that periodically meet, review up-to-date scientific information and issue recommendations (1–4). For this reason, any recommendations for management of tuberculosis in transplant recipients must always take into account the current standards for the general population.
