The mass spectra of dimedone, 2‐methyldimedone, 2‐ethyldimedone (mixture of tautomers, type A), of 2,2‐dimethyldimedone (pure ketonic form, type B) and of (3‐keto‐5,5‐dimethyl‐cyclohexenyl) ethyl ether (pure “enolic” form, type C), as well as these of deuterated analogues, have been recorded. Examination of the spectra showed, besides some common features, sufficient specificity of the fragmentation patterns to distinguish between the dimedone derivatives of either type A, B or C, and to yield information about the size and position of substituents on the ring.
