I have previously recorded thatBlastocystisis a very common inhabitant of the intestine of man in the United States¹as well as in other countries. In the previous reports it was given as present in the stools of about 50 per cent, of hospital inmates in South Carolina, being somewhat more frequent in cases of pellagra than in others. It was also given as constantly present at necropsy in the large intestine in a small series of pellagrins. The activity of the organism, as evidenced by the presence of great numbers, by larger size and by active division, was much greater in case of diarrhea and especially in case of ulceration of the intestine.
