This study comprises 15 cases of aneurysm of the splenic artery diagnosed preoperatively and 46 cases investigated at necropsy. Of the 61 subjects, 46 were women. From histologic studies in 38 cases, the most common causative factors proved to be atherosclerosis (22 cases) and congenital causes (11 cases). Typical calcification in roentgenograms of the abdomen was the most common clinical manifestation suggesting the diagnosis in the 15 patients. Only 2 of the 15 had symptoms from their aneurysms. The lesions were discovered during examination for some unrelated problem in the remaining 13 patients; diagnosis was confirmed by aortography.
