This paper studies the impact of various insulating fluid properties on the thermal performance of a rectangular distribution coil design. The fluid properties are modeled as a function of temperature and studied in an oil duct flow model. The study demonstrates the significant impact of both the fluid properties and the duct design variables on the thermal performance of the coil. These two sets of variables are independent and therefore the duct design variables can be used to provide a specific thermal performance for any insulating fluid. This paper presents a model which can be used to quantify the relationship between the fluid properties and the duct design variables.
