The main results of investigations in the fields of modern liquid crystal acoustics that originate from and continue the pioneering works of Prof. A.P. Kapustin are systematized and generalized. The following aspects of the problem are considered: acoustooptic phenomena, acoustoelectric interactions, acoustically induced domains, and effects of acoustical memory in liquid crystals. Acoustic devices based on liquid crystals are reviewed.
