This case appears unique because M. xenopi in the syndrome has not been reported, whereas the increased incidence of disseminated infections due to the atypical mycobacterium M. avium-intracellulare in this clinical setting has been very well documented (1-4).A 33-year-old bisexual man was first seen at our center on 11 November, 1982 because of a 4-week history of fever, headache, weakness, anorexia, and a 10-kg weight loss.
