Electrode gene pool: A Pd–[email protected] electrocatalyst is fabricated by immobilizing DNA on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to facilitate the growth of uniformly distributed ultrasmall Pd nanocrystals with good crystalline structure. In comparison to Pd–CNTs and commercial Pd/C, the Pd–[email protected] electrode exhibits higher electrocatalytic activity, lower charge-transfer resistance, and improved stability towards formic acid oxidation, providing great a promising anode catalyst for direct formic acid fuel cells.
