An investigation of the optical error in the pointing of telescopes, and of varia- tions therein with width of objective aperture, indicates that the efFect of marginal aberration is often sufficiently deleterious to seriously impair the advantages which should result from the use of the larger apertures. The utility of larger prisms for more accurate index measurement is, therefore, subject to ques- tion.
