The new end geometry of the linear biased probe without wraparound bias plates bas been adapted to a wire-to-plane system for use in DC corona discharge investigations. It has been shown that the aiding-bias and opposing-bias operations of this new probe are in agreement for the flat geometry of the passive electrode. The current density and the electric field are measured, and their planar distributions are given and compared with the other experiments. A similarity with other electrode systems is found. It has been shown that the measured field increases linearly with the corona voltage. The current density and the electric field decrease as the distance from the centre of plane increases, following the classical empirical cosk law of Warburg. The two measurements also decrease with the wire–plane separation and their behaviour can be represented by a power-law.
