Magnification in aerosol sizing by holography

A novel method is proposed for the acute determination of magnifications in the in-line method of holography. The method is completely general but is described with particular emphasis on its use in measurements on rapidly moving aerosols. The method allows the size distribution of such an aerosol to be determined without the use of optical components. Preliminary experiments have confirmed that the method is feasible, and more exhaustive tests are in progress.
