An expression for the electronic density of states in liquid metals is derived using nonlocal and energy dependent pseudopotentials. The electronic energies are expressed to second order in perturbation theory. Both the first order and second order energy terms show the characteristics of k ‐dependence which were not observed previously in the local pseudopotential theory with no Fermi surface approximation. Especially the density of states expression is found to have more structures, in that it involves a number of additional terms due to the nonlocality of the pseudo‐potentials. The present theory is applied to liquid Hg and Cd and some numerical calculations are made. These results are compared and discussed with similar results from other calculations.
