During the late summer and early fall of 1980, we participated in the 1980 Sino-American Botanical Expedition to western Hubei Province in the People's Republic of China.1 Most of our fieldwork was conducted in the Shennongjia Forest District, but a brief visit (5-10 October) was also made to the metasequoia region (lat. 3010'N, long. 10845'E) of Lichuan Xian (Hsien)2 after most of the field activities were completed.
