Kinetics of the polymerisation of vinyl n‐butyrate, vinyl isobutyrate, vinyl n‐caproate and vinyl isocaproate have been reported in this paper. The average DP has been found to increase with conversion. The vinyl esters are characterised by high chain transfer to monomer. K i for all the esters have been determined. K and α values of the STAUDINGER‐KUHN equation have been determined. The average effective dimensions in solutions of fractionated samples of the polyvinyl esters have been calculated. Branching or increase in the length of the acyl group of the vinyl monomer and the moleculer weight of the polymer were found to favour the polymer to assumed coiled configuration.
