A sensitive and precise method, based on the technique of competitive proteinbinding, was developed for measuring 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) in peripheral blood. The plasma 17-OHP level in normal men was 95 ng/100 ml±31 (sd). In normal women the plasma 17-OHP level was 42 ng/100 ml±20 (sd) during the follicular phase and 174 ng/100 ml ±46 (sd) during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
