Provides a historical overview and technical details regarding the management, implantation, and review of patients with permanent cardiac pacemakers.
May guide technical review in select pacemaker cases; leaves open need for prospective validation of intramyocardial approaches.
An analysis has been made of patients submitted to “permanent” cardiac pacemaking during the last six years. The current method of pacemaker implantation is described, as well as the method of pacemaker exchange or modification. Special emphasis is placed on both the need for review of these patients and the criteria examined at the time of each review, and technical details are provided of the reasons for our current choice of intramyocardial electrode systems.
