Does a new type of indifferent electrode for ELEMA pacemakers prevent pacing failure in patients requiring pacemakers?
Does a new type of indifferent electrode for ELEMA pacemakers prevent pacing failure in patients requiring pacemakers?
A new indifferent electrode for ELEMA pacemakers demonstrated no pacing failures in a small cohort over six months, offering a simple operative technique.
Should not change electrode selection in practice; leaves open efficacy in larger prospective studies.
A new type of indifferent electrode for ELEMA pacemakers was developed and used in 17 patients for up to six months. No failure in cardiac pacing with this electrode was encountered. The operative technique is very simple. The arrangement permits either of the two electrodes now available to be used in different situations. The risk of failure in this part of the electrode system will probably be reduced. A procedure for replacing the pulse generator is described here.
