Magnetic signatures are an important diagnostic tool for understanding biological processes. Typically the biomagnetic field produced by these processes is probed outside the human body, but signal strength and spatial resolution could be improved by close-up i00exn00ext00exe00exr00exn00exa00exl detection. The authors exploit nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond to create a compact magnetic-field sensor that can be used to measure biological signals endoscopically. Their sensor's size and great sensitivity make it a promising basis for imaging in biology and medicine.
