Why the study?
The relationship between fractional flow reserve and myocardial early systolic lengthening duration had not been studied, and whether left ventricular early systolic lengthening duration could identify coronary artery disease was unknown.
Does left ventricular early systolic lengthening duration measured by echocardiography identify patients with coronary artery disease and correlate with fractional flow reserve?
Population
75 patients with suspected or known CAD
Comparison
Non-significant stenosis vs CAD with FFR ≥0.8 vs CAD with FFR <0.8
Design
Single-centre, cross-sectional, prospective study

ESL duration was associated with CAD but uncorrelated with FFR; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.
Does left ventricular early systolic lengthening duration measured by echocardiography identify patients with coronary artery disease and correlate with fractional flow reserve?
Although myocardial early systolic lengthening duration is prolonged in patients with coronary artery disease, it demonstrates poor reproducibility and does not reliably predict fractional flow reserve.
