Caprylic acid, pelargonic acid, capric acid, Δ2-decenoic acid, and β-hydroxydecanoic acid (myrmicacin) inhibited pollen germination and pollen tube elongation in Camellia sinensis and mitotic division of the generative nucleus in Ornithogalum virens. The group name "myrmic acids" (MYA) is proposed for these new inhibitors containing eight to 10 carbon atoms and a carboxyl group.
