The literature relating to conventional keratoscopes and keratoscopy is reviewed to Indicate the effectiveness of various types of keratoscopes in the measurement of the topography of the anterior surface of the living human cornea. The construction of various keratoscopes is described and summaries of the associated mathematical methods of analyzing the observations are given. The accuracies of measurements claimed by various workers are listed and discussed.
