The effect of spherical voids on the electrical magnetoresistivity of compensated metals is investigated in the high-magnetic-field regime using an effective medium approach. For a transverse magnetic field the presence of voids is shown to have no observable effect on the magnetoresistivity of compensated metals, a result consistent with experimental observations. By contrast, voids in uncompensated metals have been shown by other authors to produce a magnetoresistive term linear in magnetic field. For a longitudinal magnetic field the presence of voids is found to affect compensated metals in much the same manner as it does uncompensated, with a linear longitudinal magnetoresistance being predicted.
