Laser emission was obtained from a mixture of xenon with N 2 O pumped with radiation of a high-current discharge. The laser action was attributed to the XeO( 1 S )≈XeO( 1 D ) transition at λ≈0.54 μ. The gain achieved was ~5 × 10 –4 cm –1 and the specific output energy was ~10 –5 J/cm 3 .
