The covalent Xe–O bond lengths in XeO ₃ are elongated upon increasing the pressure, which is similar to the change observed with hydrogen bonds under pressure. Moreover, XeO ₃ rearranges in a highly-ordered manner by O hopping at about 2 GPa, which is analogous to the proton hopping observed among hydrogen bonds.
