A method for computing the imaginary part of the Delbr\"uck scattering amplitude, based on an expression derived by Kessler, has been developed and applied for gamma-ray energies of 2.62 and 6.14 Mev. The significance of the calculation with regard to available experimental results is discussed and some possible further developments are outlined.
