The article focuses on the limited exportability of present-day Czech films through a case study of an original and internationally ambitious film We Have Never Been Modern that, nevertheless, has not succeeded on international markets and in the festival circuit. The analysis attempts to identify some reasons behind the film’s modest performance despite its original topic. The problems singled out by the analysis are related both to the plot of the film (revolving around intersex characters) and to the way the film was targeted at different target groups and communicated.
