The reaction of 1-propyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide with hexacyanoferrate(III) in 20% aqueous methanol follows a second-order rate law with first order with respect to each reactant concentration. Kinetic parameters are ΔH: (8.8±0.4)×103 J mol−1 and ΔS: −1.8×102 J mol−1 K−1, the observed kinetic isotope effect, kH/kD, being 1.51. The mechanism of the reaction is discussed.
