SUMMARY: The fatty acid compositions of three strains of Pseudomonas multivorans and three of P. kingii were determined by gas-liquid chromatography. The major fatty acids identified were 16:0, 16:1, 18:1, 3-OH 14:0, 3-OH 16:0 and cyclopropane acids 17 Δ and 19 Δ. The fatty acid compositions of these strains were similar to the acids identified in sixteen clinical isolates of the P. multivorans (P. cepacia)/P. kingii group’. These data support the current view that P. multivorans and P. kingii are identical species.
