Human carbonic anhydrases catalyze the hydrolysis of 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene. This catalysis is abolished by the same inhibitors that inhibit other reactions catalyzed by these enzymes. Human carbonic anhydrase B cannot be saturated with this substrate up to its maximum water solubility. Carbonic anhydrase B is approximately 10 times as powerful a catalyst for this reaction as anhydrase C.
