A simple experimental method of determining the variation in the ion transmission efficiency with mass-to-charge ratio for quadrupole and other discriminating mass filters is described. This information can be used for the study of mass filters per se , to normalize ion current data to that obtained with non-discriminating filters for comparison of mass spectrometrically obtained fragmentation patterns, and to aid in determining partial pressures from ion currents in thermodynamic studies.
