The conductivity and activity coefficient of counterions of sodium salts of some charged polyamino acids, as poly‐ L ‐glutamic acid, poly‐ L ‐aspartic acid, and poly‐ L ‐cysteic acid, were measured in aqueous solution. The results show that the degree of binding of small counterions to the charged macroions shows a characteristic dependence on dilution and temperature which is not common for other simple polyelectrolytes. Such behavior is very likely related to conformational changes induced by the above factors.
