A case of rheumatoid arthritis following rubella is presented. The serum latex fixation test, at first negative, became positive in high titer in 2 months and was positive 5 years after onset of the arthritis. Convalescent sera were positive for rubella neutralizing and hemagglutination‐inhibiting antibodies through the 5‐year follow‐up. Although the association could be coincidental, these findings suggest that rubella virus may have contributed to the subsequent development of the syndrome of rheumatoid arthritis.
