The isothermal compressibility of a monolayer solid of Xe/Cu(001) is estimated from structural data of Graham et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 106, 6194 (1997)] and is in the range inferred for three other xenon monolayer solids. This analysis does not support an assignment of the anomalous excitation observed by Graham et al. to be the longitudinal acoustic branch of the xenon solid.
