Serial bronchial secretions, serum and saliva specimens were collected on day 1 and day 3 from 30 patients given cefotaxime in three dosage schedules of 0.75, 1.0 and 2.0 g, 12 hourly. The bronchial secretion concentrations ranged between 0.6 and 2.6 μg/ml and were generally higher for the 4 g daily dose and did not increase during multiple dosing. There was no cefotaxime present in any of the saliva samples except for one patient on 4 g daily whose cefotaxime saliva concentrations varied between 0.4 and 1 μg/ml.
