The authors studied the phonon energies Omega and phonon lifetimes Gamma -1 of face-centred cubic 36 Ar and natural Ar at 4 degrees K. The expressions for Omega and Gamma are based upon the leading correction to the lowest order self-consistent phonon theory. They use a central two-body (m-6) Lennard-Jones potential, m=12 and 13, and find good agreement with recent data for 36 Ar and natural Ar. They avoided some of the difficulties encountered previously with the singular functions occuring in Omega and Gamma .
