Experimental tracer studies in the eye have revealed a complex pattern of exchange of material in the vitreous humour with the surrounding media. As an initial stage towards unifying some of those findings, a mathematical model has been developed in which a tracer diffuses from vitreous humour into the retina, choroid and sclera with removal occurring in the capillary bed of the choroid. A numerical solution has been obtained which is applicable to a three-dimensional simulation of the post-lenticular tissues of the eye. Good agreement is demonstrated between the predictions of the model and experimental results for xenon.
