In a previous paper (1) evidence was presented for the existence of an unstable irradiation product of the pyrimidine ribonucleotide, uridylic acid (2'or 3'-phosphate). Studies of the effects of ultraviolet irradiation on other riboand deoxyribonucleotides have revealed that of this group, only the cytidylic acids share this property. In this instance, the irradiation product is so unstable that it has not been isolated and only spectrophotometric evidence can be presented for its existence.
